Four Ontario law professors, including Jacob Ziegel and Anthony Duggan from the U of T Faculty of Law, have made a submission to the Ontario government to speak about Bill 180 - the proposed Consumer Protection Statute Law Amendment Act 2002, which alters or adds new provisions to existing consumer protection laws.

The group of professors, which also include Vaughan Black from Osgoode Hall Law School and Thomas Telfer of the University of Western Ontario, made the submission to the Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs. Read the submission by clicking here.

The group's initiatives were also highlighted by columnist Ellen Roseman in the Nov. 27, 2002 Toronto Star ("New consumer law falls short" page C6). Roseman quoates Ziegel and highlights some concerns the professors are raising about the bill.

Ziegel, Professor of Law Emeritus at the University of Toronto, has also written a commentary piece in the Globe and Mail on Nov. 5 ("A whopping bill for consumers" page A19) about this issue.
