The Mary and Phil Seeman Health Law, Policy and Ethics Seminar Series In Partnership with The Connaught Global Challenge Award Seminar Series Present:

Corruption Risks in the Deployment of COVID-19 Vaccines: A Clear and Present Threat to Global Public Health

About the Seminar: The global deployment of COVID vaccines is unprecedented in terms of its speed, scale, and complexity. Urgency, demand, and shortages have placed new stress on global supply chains, leaving them vulnerable to further disruption. The global deployment of vaccines also presents corruption risks throughout the supply chain that can undercut critical global public health goals. This seminar will discuss corruption risks in the deployment of COVID vaccines and how to reduce these risks through enhanced transparency and accountability mechanisms. Stronger transparency and accountability can not only reduce corruption risks but also contribute to better equity in the global distribution of vaccines. Particular focus will be given to the purchase and procurement of vaccines.

Presented by: Dr. Jillian Kohler

Dr. Kohler is a Professor at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, Dalla Lana School of Public Health, and Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto. She is also the Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Governance, Transparency and Accountability in the Pharmaceutical Sector.

The presentation will be followed by a commentary from:
Jonathan Cushing, Head of Global Health, Transparency International; and
Dr. Mostafa Hunter, Senior Expert, Corruption Risk Management, UNDP
