All students are invited to join Dean Moran for a special leadership lunch featuring U of T law alumnus Maureen Kempston Darkes (Class of 1973).  The lunch will take place on Monday, November 10, 2008 from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. in the Faculty Lounge.

 

The Leadership Lunch is designed to allow students to learn about different career paths and to interact with alumni in an informal setting. 

Maureen Kempston Darkes was appointed GM group vice president and president, GM Latin America, Africa and Middle East (LAAM) and a member of the General Motors Automotive Strategy Board, effective January 1, 2002. Prior to this appointment, she was president and general manager of General Motors of Canada Limited (GMCL) and vice president of General Motors Corporation, from 1994 to 2001.

After joining the General Motors of Canada Limited Legal Staff in 1975, she became assistant counsel in 1979. She served on the General Motors Corporation Legal Staff in Detroit in 1979-1980 and headed the GM of Canada Tax Staff from 1980 to1984.

In 1997, Kempston Darkes received The Order of Ontario and was appointed as an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2000. The American Bar Association in 1998 recognized her with the Margaret Brent Women Lawyers of Achievement Award. In 1999, she received the Distinguished Service Citation from the Automotive Hall of Fame.
