This round-table brings together participants from South Africa and Canada to critically appraise the legal strategies employed in both countries to achieve same-sex marriage.

David Bilchitz was a legal advisor to OUT LGBT well-being, an NGO that coordinated the same-sex marriage campaign through parliament, and wrote the response of the Joint Working Group (a coalition of 17 LGBTI organizations) to parliament.

Douglas Elliott
successfully represented the Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto in the Ontario Court of Appeal in Halpern v. Canada and in the Supreme Court of Canada on the Marriage Reference.
