"Recent Developments in the Patent Cooperation Treaty"

Description: Matthew Bryan will provide an update on recent developments in the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), including statistics and amendments to the PCT Regulations. He will address future developments in the PCT that will be discussed and decided upon at the October PCT Assembly, as well as longer term initiatives. He will be happy to answer questions on the PCT or other aspects of WIPO's patent-related activities.

Bio: Matthew Bryan currently serves as the Director of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) Legal Division. Mr. Bryan serves as the chief legal adviser to Deputy Director General Gurry on the PCT and to the PCT Operations Division. Bryan also oversees the following PCT services: the provision of legal and strategic advice to PCT users, PCT user relations, the organization of PCT training and seminars, and the resolution of problem cases. His Division also produces the PCT legal texts (Treaty, Regulations, legal notices in the PCT Gazette, Administrative Instructions, Forms, Guidelines), as well as the PCT explanatory texts (PCT Applicant's Guide, PCT Newsletter, PCT seminar materials) and is responsible for the PCT information content on WIPO's PatentScope website. Before joining WIPO in 1992, Mr. Bryan served as a Law Clerk on the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit to Judge Randall R. Rader and Senior Judge Marion T. Bennett.
