Instructor(s): Larissa Katz

This seminar is mandatory for all LLM students. The purpose of this seminar is to provide LLM students with an introduction to various theoretical, doctrinal, empirical and critical approaches to legal scholarship. The lectures will be complemented by skill-based modules focused on academic skills such as legal writing, research and exam-writing.

Attendance is mandatory. Every absence (justified or not) will require students to prepare an additional assignment. Two unjustified absences will result in a failing grade. Justified absences are those accepted under our accommodations policy and, whenever possible, requested in advance of the class.

There are two mandatory skills-based module components of the course:

  • Academic Writing Strategies
  • Legal Scholarship Roundtable
Evaluation
Pass/fail, based on attendance and completion of the assignments. Students are required to attend all classes.
