Instructor(s): Anna Su

Note: 3 credits (Conditional Enrol)

Note: Credits are allocated as follows: one credit in the fall term and two credits to the winter term.

Editors-in-Chief and Senior Editors will be selected by the Director in the Spring of each year. Students must be in residence for the year in order to obtain credit for the journal.

The Journal of Law and Equality is an important forum for the discussion of equality-related issues in Canada. The Senior Editors make a crucial contribution to the work of the JLE.

Students who serve as Editors-in-Chief, or Senior Editors of the Journal of Law & Equality may receive three ungraded credits. Students must commit to Journal of Law & Equality responsibilities for the entire year to obtain credit. No credit will be shown on the interim statement of grades until the program has been fully completed.

Senior Editors will work on two or more submissions:

  1. Manuscript assessment: Each Senior Editor will prepare an outline of the submission, an abstract, and write a memo analyzing its strengths and weaknesses.
  2. Research: Each Senior Editor will write a memo on the adequacy of part of the research in the submission.
  3. Manuscript and Research Assessments should be 2 to 3 pages long. Comments should be submitted to the Faculty Advisor on the Thursday before the Senior Board meeting each term.
  4. Feedback: Based on the Senior Board’s assessment of the submission Senior Editors will draft a letter to their authors conveying feedback.
  5. Editing: Each Senior Editor will annotate the submission to suggest revisions.

Students may work in teams if appropriate. This work, similarly, will include providing an overall manuscript assessment, a research assessment, feedback to the author, and final substance editing suggestions.

Evaluation
The specific requirements that must be satisfied by the Senior Editors of the journal to obtain credit will be determined by the administration, following consultation with the Instructor(s). These requirements could include submission of written critiques of manuscripts and articles. In any event, it will be the decision of the Instructor(s) as to whether or not the requirements for credit have been satisfied.
