Professor Friedland’s many contributions are personal (he has been a dedicated and influential mentor to many), institutional (since his time as dean of our Faculty, he has remained an active member of our community and generous with his unique insight and wise counsel), in public service (among other things, on many government committees  and commissions) and, above all, scholarly (ranging from his ground-breaking work in criminal law to his incisive histories of the University of Toronto (UTP 2013) and of the first dean of law, W.P.M. Kennedy (UTP 2020).
