Fees will be billed by academic session (term), instead of by academic year. As a result the deadline dates for fee payment and financial aid applications have changed. Please check the information periodically for updates.

2018-2019 First Year JD Students

Interest-free loan applications:
Scotia Professional Student Plan®, or
TD Student Line of Credit®
Application decisions will be communicated via email by the bank directly. Students approved for the loan must physically go to a specific branch in downtown Toronto to sign loan and service agreement documents.

Scotiabank: Queen St & McCaul St (just west of University Ave) 
TD Bank: 77 Bloor St. West (at Bay St).

Since you will not be able to access these funds from the bank until after classes start on August 21 (which is when the Faculty will advise the relevant bank that you are a registered Faculty of Law student), you can hold off arranging to sign these documents. You can wait until you are in the Toronto area to set an appointment at the specific branch.

June 1, 2018JD Financial Aid Program application
For a provisional assessment (estimate) of the UofT Law aid package, please use the online JD Financial Aid Calculator.

Applicants with offer of admission letters dated earlier than May 30, apply by June 1 for final assessment, and to be considered for both bursaries and interest-fee loans. Late applications will be considered for interest-free loans only.

New students admitted on or after June 1 will be sent an email with their revised aid deadlines.  Expect the email within a week of notification of the offer of admission. Please contact us immediately if you’ve missed the revised aid deadline email.

June 30, 2018Government student loansTo avoid processing delays please apply as soon as possible, ideally before the deadline. Most online applications are available early spring (April-June). Proof of application, and eligibility, for government student loans will be required for students wishing to defer payment of their tuition fee minimum payment.4-6 weeks

Tuition Fee: Minimum payment in order to be officially registered
Minimum tuition fee payment must be either paid or deferred by deadline, otherwise your seat at the Faculty of Law may be forfeited.

Even though you will not have access to your Scotiabank or TD funds until you are officially registered, you can still have your tuition fees paid from your Line of Credit (interest-free loans). 

To do so, you will have to provide Scotiabank or TD with a copy of your fees invoice (which you can access via ACORN) and ask them to deposit the required amount directly to your University of Toronto student account (the account number will be on the top right hand corner of the invoice). This can be done as soon as you have access to your invoice and fee amount in ACORN.

Tuition fees: Fall Session fees dueAccounts with an outstanding balance as of October 13 are subject to a monthly service charge of 1.5% compounded monthly (19.56% per annum) assessed as of the 15th of every month. It normally takes 5 business days for a payment to be processed by the bank and for the amount to be updated to the student account.5 days
February 28, 2019Interest-free loan: Payment of interestProvide a copy of the January or February 2019 bank statement in order for the Faculty to pay the interest on the interest-free loan. The payment will be deposited to the student account in ACORN. 2-3 weeks
April 26, 2019Student Account paid in fullIf the student account in ACORN is not paid by the end of this academic year, students will be subject to academic sanctions.
