Adjunct Professor

Susan J. Heakes, B.A. (Carleton), LLB (Queens) was called to the Ontario Bar in 1984. Ms. Heakes clerked with the Court of Appeal in 1985. Sue was a partner in two major Canadian law firms where she practiced in the areas of commercial litigation, defamation and personal wealth litigation. From 2007 until 2018, Sue was a senior discipline counsel at the Law Society, arguing in over 180 hearings, many of which were high profile. Sue currently works as the independent legal counsel for two professional regulators, and she is an adjudicator for the Consent and Capacity Board and the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants of Canada. Sue continues to teach advocacy, evidence law and procedural skills to lawyers, adjudicators and students on behalf of various organizations.  Contact: sheakes@gmail.com
