Bert Bruser, is a partner emeritus at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP in Toronto, and currently works full time as a Toronto Star newsroom lawyer.  While at Blakes he acted for newspapers and others in the publishing business for more than thirty years and created the firm’s media law group.  During that time he defended hundreds of libel actions and appeared at all levels of court, resisting publication bans, subpoenas to reporters and other attempts to interfere with the rights of the press.  Bert co-authored a book, Journalists and the Law:  How to Get the Story without Getting Sued or Put in Jail, and founded the Media Law Course at Ryerson School of Journalism, which he continues to teach annually.  Bert has a Master’s Degree in Journalism from Columbia University, and worked as a journalist before going to law school at the University of Toronto (LL.B., 1972).  Contact:
