Note: This course satisfies the "Legal Ethics" graduation requirement.

This course introduces students to legal ethics and professional responsibility. Students will examine the foundations of ethical reasoning, the Rules of Professional Conduct and the principles and values that underlie legal ethics. Topics to be considered may include: the solicitor-client relationship, the roles and responsibilities of the advocate in both civil and criminal litigation, conflicts of interest, privilege and confidentiality, whistle-blowing, the roles and responsibilities of corporate and government counsel, regulation of the legal profession and the role of lawyers and paralegals with respect to access to justice and other aspects of our legal system.

Evaluation
Three-hour final examination (80%). General class participation (10%). Three short (250 word) written responses to discussion questions based on class readings (10%).
