Note - schedule revised: This externship seminar will now meet exclusively remotely six times, twice early in the term, twice mid-term, and twice towards the end of the term. The meetings will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8.00 a.m. – 9.30 a.m. During the Fall 2020 term the course will meet specifically on September 15, September 17, October 27, October 29, November 17 and November 19.

The goal of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Externship is to provide students with hands-on experience in working with start-up companies. Students will be placed with the innovation teams at Toronto law firms with top ranked innovation teams providing services to start up clients. This companion seminar will help students develop professional skills, and require them to reflect on the practice of law in this area.

The seminar will provide an opportunity for students to integrate their practical, doctrinal and theoretical learning. Sessions will focus around substantive issues, skills building, professional responsibility and legal ethics, and include discussions of the issues raised by the students’ casework. Students enrolled in year-long Innovation and Entrepreneurship externships must participate in the fall seminar.

Evaluation
In order to receive credit, students must attend and participate in the seminar sessions and will be required to submit four 1000-word guided reflections during the term.
