About the Symposium 

This Symposium celebrated Professor Michael Trebilcock's career and his extraordinary contributions to legal scholarship and law reform by bringing together leading scholars in each of the focal points of his work.

The hallmark of Michael Trebilcock's scholarship is his combination of rigorous economic analysis with a deep-seated humanitarianism and commitment to social justice. He has brought his unique blend of analytical skills to bear on a wide range of topics, including competition law and policy, immigration law, international trade law and law and development, and he has had a profound influence on generations of students and Canadian society at large. The Symposium demonstrated the breadth, depth and endurance of Professor's Trebilcock influence by showcasing the work of his former students who have since gone on to successful and influential academic careers in their own right, in many parts of the world.

In addition to panels on eight subject areas, each reflecting and building on a key aspect of Professor Trebilcock’s own scholarship, two special panels of distinguished international visitors discussed Prof. Trebilcock's overall legacy.  The keynote address was be given by George Priest, Professor of Law and Economics at Yale Law School.

The Symposium dinner at the Great Hall of Hart House provided an opportunity for Prof. Trebilcock's colleagues to pay tribute to his distinguished career.

The symposium was organized by Professors Anita Anand, Tony Duggan, Colleen Flood, and Ed Iacobucci and is generously supported by a grant from the Law Foundation of Ontario.
