Here is the latest project update.
Gopal Sreenivasan (Philosophy) and Arthur Ripstein (Law) are developing a principled framework for decision making based on research into 'values'. This work will get its first airing at the conference being sponsored and organised by the Institute for Research on Public Policy and to be held on 30 November in Toronto. Details about the conference are below.
See below for more information about a very interesting workshop that will be held by the Values Team on 9 and 10 December. We will be treated to presentations and debate from the leading thinkers in the area of priority-setting and CEA. They include: Anthony Culyer, Doug Martin, Dan Brock, Peter Ubel, Paul Menzel, Ezekiel Emanuel, and Norman Daniels.
Draft reports have been prepared by Natalie de Paulsen and Lisa Minuk on financial incentives with respect to Clinical Practice Guidelines and financial incentives with respect to Drug Formularies. Please contact me if you are interested in seeing these draft reports; comments and suggestions would be most welcome.
Bill Orovan and Carolyn Tuohy are working on a presentation to the IRPP conference (see below) to report on their research into physician compensation models.
Mark Stabile will be presenting the first cut of his work on the effects of de-listing services at the IRPP conference. It will deal with changes in service coverage for a select group of services compared to data on spending for those services over a set period.
Tom Archibald will present at the IRPP conference a comparison of physician/government negotiations in Alberta, BC and Ontario. This is a continuation of work done on the Physician Services Committee in Ontario.
Mita Giacomini is reviewing data collected on every decision made over the last 7 years by the Health Services Appeal and Review Board in Ontario. We hope to hold an event early in 2005 at which this work can be presented.
Colleen Flood continues with, amongst many other pieces of research, with the editing of a volume of papers based on the National Health Law Conference 2004 (see note below on "The Frontiers of Fairness"). Colleen recently presented at the 5th International Conference on Priorities held over 3-5 November, in Wellington, New Zealand. The programme of speakers can be seen at: http://www.healthcarepriorities.org/sci_prog.html
