The Barbra Schlifer Clinic

The Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic provides free legal, counselling and cultural interpretation services for women survivors of violence. Since its foundation in 1985, the Clinic has provided these services to over 35,000 women.

Students work in the clinic’s legal department, which focuses on the safety and protection of clients and their pursuit of financial compensation.  As they assist the clinic’s clients, students gain valuable experience in family, criminal and administrative law.

Working in the clinic provides students with the opportunity to have responsibility for at least five files. Students carry out their duties under the supervision of the clinic’s staff lawyers, and the work experience is supplemented by regular training sessions.

First year students can volunteer at the clinic, and upper year students can enroll in the Clinic for Credit programme for academic credit. Enrolment in the Schlifer Clinic is limited, and students will be interviewed for the available positions.
