Downtown Legal Services (DLS)

DLS provides free legal assistance to people who cannot afford legal services in the following areas: Criminal law, Family law, Refugee law, Tenant Housing and University Affairs. The clinic is staffed by U of T students working under the close supervision of lawyers. Legal Aid Ontario

You may wish to fill out a Legal Aid application to find out whether you qualify for Legal Aid representation. If you financially qualify for Legal Aid assistance, you will be provided with a certificate which will permit you to retain a lawyer.  Depending on your specific financial circumstances, the certificate may fund all or part of your legal fees. Pro Bono Ontario (PBO)

You may be able to receive legal help from a volunteer lawyer through Pro Bono Ontario (PBO).

Lawyer Referral Service

You may wish to contact the Law Society of Upper Canada’s (LSUC) Referral Service at 1-800-268-8326 or 416-947-3330. For $6.00, you will receive a half-hour consultation with a lawyer.
