The June Callwood Fellowship program, U of T Law and Pro Bono Students Canada have allowed me to spend my summer assisting an Aboriginal rights lawyer with some of his ongoing litigation.  Being involved in these fascinating files has been such a rewarding experience. I have had the opportunity to help various Aboriginal communities on a number of issues from governance to tax exemption and have had a chance to meet and get to know the individuals behind the litigation. Meeting with these people has been a phenomenal experience.  I am continually overwhelmed by how remarkably welcoming the Aboriginal communities that I have visited are.

It has been a steep learning curve as I draft memoranda and statements of claim and research the history of legislative tax exemptions and Aboriginal peoples.  I have learned so much in the time I have spent working here.  What is especially exciting is the connection I feel with the people in Aboriginal communities who are striving to have their voices heard in our legal system and our country.
