Many outside agencies offer awards to graduate students. Keep in mind that deadlines can be very early, often in September or October. Your request for financial support from the Faculty may be jeopardized by your failure to apply for available external awards.
Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)

Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship
The Government of Canada launched the Vanier CGS program to to strengthen Canada's ability to attract and retain world-class doctoral students who demonstrate leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies in the social sciences and/or humanities and health. These scholarships are distributed by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) federal granting agencies. International Law Research Program (ILRP) Graduate Scholarship
This scholarship is administered by the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) and is designed to enhance research opportunities for outstanding graduate level students who are conducting research related to CIGI’s International Law Research Program. The program's areas of focus are international economic law, international intellectual property law and international environmental law.
