(Toronto, Ontario) - On Tuesday March 6, 2007 at 7 pm, the Environmental Law Club and the Environmental Sustainability Working Group at the U of T Faculty of Law will present a screening of the award-winning documentary film: Manufactured Landscapes. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the director, Jennifer Baichwal, and a discussion of current environmental issues led by Faculty of Law Professor Jutta BrunnÈe.
The breathtaking and compelling Manufactured Landscapes raises questions about globalization, international environmental law, labour law, the relationship between people and nature, and human rights. The film won the 2006 Best Canadian Feature Film at the Toronto International Film Festival, a 2007 Genie Award for Best Documentary and was included in the Official Selection at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, among other prizes.
"Our law students are very interested and engaged in environmental issues," says Prof. Jutta BrunnÈe, holder of the Metcalf Chair in Environmental Law. "Through our Pro Bono Students Canada program students volunteer with Sierra Legal Fund and other leading non-profit environmental organizations. The Faculty also offers a JD/Certificate in Environmental Studies in collaboration with the Centre for Environment at U of T and provides opportunities for students to conduct intensive research on critical policy issues."
