Ontario Attorney General Nasir Naqvi makes announcement

Ontario Attorney General Yasir Naqvi came to the University of Toronto Faculty of Law this morning to make an important announcement about new steps to improve the province's criminal justice system.

At a press conference in the Osler Hoskin & Harcourt Atrium of the new Jackman Law Building, Naqvi was introduced by Dean Edward Iacobucci. The Attorney General then announced the Ontario government's plan to reduce time-to-trial and improve the bail system, in part in response to the Supreme Court of Canada's decision in R. v. Jordan, followed by a question-and-answer period with the media. Interested students, faculty and staff also gathered to watch the proceedings.
