IHRP Director Renu Mandhane - "How Canadian Prisons Torture the Mentally Ill"

International Human Rights Program (IHRP) director Renu Mandhane has published a commentary in the Huffington Post about a report by the UN Committee Against Torture that deals with Canada's treatment of prisoners with mental health issues ("How Canadian Prisons Torture the Mentally Ill," June 1, 2012).

Mandhane was also quoted in a Toronto Star article about the UN report, where she notes that “Canada’s treatment of prisoners with mental health issues is problematic and could put it in violation of the convention.”

The UN report follows a recent IHRP report on Correctional Service of Canada's treatment of female prisoners with serious mental health issues.
