David Asper Centre for Constitutional Rights selects John Norris as Constitutional-Litigator-in-Residence

The Faculty of Law’s David Asper Centre for Constitutional Rights is pleased to announce that distinguished criminal defence and civil rights advocate John Norris is the Asper Centre’s Constitutional-Litigator-in-Residence for fall 2013.                   

Norris, a Toronto-based criminal defence lawyer, will teach constitutional advocacy in the Asper Centre clinic. Drawing upon his extensive experience advocating for the Charter rights of his clients, and upon his academic experience as adjunct faculty member at the Faculty of Law, he will mentor students on the case files for their clinic work. He will also give a public lecture for the benefit of all of the students and faculty at the University of Toronto law school.

“John Norris has provided us with his services on a pro bono basis in the past. We are very pleased to work with him again and to give the students more time to learn from his extensive experience,” says Executive Director Cheryl Milne.

“I have a longstanding affiliation with the U of T law school,” says Norris. “I am a graduate of the school, and I’ve been teaching there for more than 15 years.  One thing I’ve found personally rewarding about my work at the law school is that it allows me to bring my practice into the academic environment. This opportunity is another great chance to do that.”
