Peter Benson joined the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law in 1998, where he became a full professor in 2000. His academic experience includes law degrees from Harvard and the University of Toronto, as well as an M.Sc. in Politics from the London School of Economics and an undergraduate degree in Sociology from Harvard. Professor Benson worked for Chief Justice Bora Laskin of the Supreme Court of Canada as a law clerk.

His teaching and writing focus on contract law, tort law, the theory of private law, and theories of justice. His recent publications include contributions to The Theory of Contract Law: New Essays (ed. Peter Benson, Cambridge University Press, 2001) and The Oxford Handbook of Jurisprudence. His work has also been published in journals including Political Theory, The Columbia Law Review, The Iowa Law Review, The Cardozo Law Review, and The Canadian Journal of Law and Jurisprudence.
