Promise Holmes Skinner is Anishnaabe, descending from Cape Croker and is a member of the Ontario Bar.  Promise is a June Callwood Fellow and graduated from the Faculty of Law with a Juris Doctor and Certificate in Aboriginal Legal Studies. Promise completed her articles and began her career as a lawyer with the criminal defence firm Greenspan Humphrey Lavine where she acted on behalf of The Advocates’ Society at the Supreme Court of Canada in the matter of R v Kokopenace, a constitutional rights case concerning First Nations persons living on-reserve in Ontario.

Promise is the Senior Manager, Gladue Program Specialist at Aboriginal Legal Services of Toronto and frequently staffs Gladue Court at College Park as per diem duty counsel where she represents Aboriginal persons charged with criminal offences.
