M. Paul Michell, B.A. (McGill) 1990, LL.B. (Toronto) 1994, B.C.L. (Oxford) 1995, Ontario Bar 1997, is a partner at Lax O’Sullivan Scott Lisus LLP. His practice focuses on complex commercial arbitration and litigation, shareholder rights, directors’ and officers’ liability, defamation, appeals and judicial review. He has extensive experience in the Ontario Superior and appellate courts, the Supreme Court of Canada, and before a variety of administrative and arbitral tribunals. He was law clerk to Mr. Justice Charles Gonthier of the Supreme Court of Canada, and is adjunct professor, Faculty of Law, University of Toronto. Some of his more than 25 articles have been cited by the Supreme Court of Canada, High Court of Australia, and International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He was named an “Up-and-Coming” Ontario Dispute Resolution Lawyer in Chambers Global 2009 and 2010, a “Canadian Litigation Lawyer to Watch” by LEXPERT (2007), and one of Canada’s “Top 40 Lawyers Under 40” by LEXPERT in 2006.
