Lindsay Farmer, LLB (Hons) (Edinburgh) 1985, MPhil (Cambridge) 1986, PhD (European University Institute, Florence), 1993, is Professor of Law at the University of Glasgow. He has previously held teaching posts at the University of Strathclyde, and at Birkbeck College, University of London, where he helped establish a new LLB course. He has spent time as a visiting fellow at the Center for Law and Society in the University of California at Berkeley (1998, 2003 and 2005). His publications include Criminal Law, Tradition and Legal Order. Crime and the Genius of Scots Law 1747 to the Present (Cambridge 1997); The Trial on Trial. Vol.III Towards a Normative Theory of the Criminal Trial (with A. Duff, S. Marshall & V. Tadros) (Hart Publishing 2007); and ( ed. with M.D. Dubber), Modern Histories of Crime and Punishment (Stanford UP, 2007). He is Editor-in-Chief of the journal
New Criminal Law Review. He is on the editorial boards of Criminal Law and Philosophy, Law and Humanities, and Law, Culture and the Humanities. His broad areas of research interest are criminal law, legal history and legal theory. He is currently working on AHRC funded interdisciplinary project on Criminalization (2008-2012) with colleagues at the Universities of Stirling and Warwick.
