Jack Quinn, BA (George Washington University) 1970; JD (Indiana University) 1975; LLM (Yale University) 1976 is a Partner Emeritus of Blake, Cassels & Graydon, LLP. From 1976 to 1985, he was a full-time law teacher at the University of Western Ontario, Osgoode Hall Law School, and Georgetown University Law Center. The organization, management and regulation of business activity was the focus of his teaching and scholarship; he taught courses in business associations, corporate finance, competition law, international trade and investment law, regulation of business and economic analysis of law. During this period, he also served as Canadian Director of the Canada U.S.-Law Institute and Research Coordinator on Legal Issues for Canada's Royal Commission on the Economic Union and Canada's Development Prospects (i.e., Macdonald Commission).
In 1986, Jack joined Blakes and became a general partner in 1988. Over the course of his 25 year career, he acted for many public and private companies, financial institutions, industry joint ventures and trade associations. He advised the boards of acquirers (both Canadian and non-Canadian), targets and investors in a large number of mergers, acquisitions, takeovers (negotiated and contested) and joint ventures. His practice also involved designing and counseling business organizations owned by competitors in a wide variety of industries, with a focus on governance and regulatory compliance issues. He was closely involved in many of the major cases before the Competition Tribunal since its creation in 1986. He is also an international trade lawyer with extensive experience dealing with the drafting and implementation of the Canada/U.S. Free Trade Agreement, NAFTA, WTO and other international trade agreements
