Freya Kristjanson, B.A. (Hons.) (Queen’s) 1983, L.L.B. (University of Victoria) 1987, clerked for Mr. Justice W.R. McIntyre at the Supreme Court of Canada. She was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1989. Freya is a partner at Cavalluzzo, Hayes, Shilton, McIntyre & Cornish LLP , where she practices in the areas of administrative and public law and civil litigation.. Prior to joining Cavalluzzo, Ms. Kristjanson was a partner at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, Toronto. Ms. Kristjanson has appeared as counsel before the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Courts, all levels of court in Ontarioand numerous administrative tribunals, acting for both public and private sector clients. She is presently counsel to the Military Police Complaints Commission in public interest hearings involving the transfer of detainees by Canadian Forces in Afghanistan. Ms. Kristjansonalso has extensive public inquiry experience. . She was Legal Counsel to Justice O’Connor at heArar Inquiry Policy Review, which made recommendations regarding oversight of RCMP national security activities. She served as , Commission Counsel to the Walkerton Inquiry, counsel to the Rt. Hon. Kim Campbell and staff at the Somalia Inquiry, and Assistant Commission Counsel to the Hryciuk Inquiry. Ms. Kristjansonis a member of the Legal Advisory Committee, Financial Services Tribunal (Ontario), Past Chair of the Constitutional and Civil Liberties Section of the Canadian Bar Association (Ontario), and teaches trial advocacyfor the Advocates’ Society.
