Ari Kaplan

Adjunct Professor

Ari N. Kaplan, BA (Hons) (McGill) 1994, LLB (Osgoode) 1997, LLM (Osgoode) 2001, is a partner at Koskie Minsky LLP in Toronto. He is the author of Pension Law, Canada’s first textbook in the field, for which he received the 2007 Walter Owen Book Prize. Lexpert has recognized Ari as one of Canada’s leading 500 lawyers. He has represented employees, pensioners and pension funds on some of Canada's most significant appeals, including Kerry and Monsanto before the Supreme Court of Canada. In 2010, Ari was appointed by Ontario’s Attorney General to the Board of Trustees of the Law Foundation of Ontario (lawfoundation.on.ca). The Foundation uses the interest generated on $2.5 billion of Ontario lawyer trust accounts to support Legal Aid Ontario and other programs that advance public exposure to the Canadian justice system. Through the direction of its five trustees, the Foundation has spent almost $1 billion since 1974 toward the public good. Ari is also an adjunct professor of law at the University of Toronto and, in his spare time, helps run an independent music label, Paper Bag Records (www.paperbagrecords.com).
