Description
We are pleased to invite graduate students to present their work at the 6th Annual Conference of the Toronto Group for the study of International, Transnational and Comparative Law.
The Toronto Group (TG) is a collaboration between graduate students at Osgoode Hall Law School and the Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto. It is aimed at creating a forum for graduate students to disseminate their research and engage with a broad international community of emerging scholars. TG’s areas of focus include legal, social, and political theory, public and private international law, and constitutional law and politics.
TG’s signature event is our annual conference. It will be held in Toronto, Ontario on May 17, 2013, from 9:00am to 5:30pm, at the Faculty of Law of the University of Toronto. This year’s conference theme is “Social Movements and the Law”, and we are very pleased to announce that Professor Margot Young, of the University of British Columbia, will be delivering the keynote lecture.
See our “Call for Submissions” page on our website http://torontogroup.wordpress.com for information on how to submit your own abstract to be considered for presentation at the Conference.
We encourage all participants to interpret ‘social movements’ broadly, as the conference is intended to promote reflection and discussion on the multifaceted relationship between law and social movements from a range of theoretical, methodological, and disciplinary perspectives. We invite papers that explore a broad range of issues including, for example:
- Social movements, social justice, and human rights;
- Social movements and private rights;
- Social movements and globalization;
- Social movements and Indigenous self-determination; or
- Social movements, digital technology, and the law.
Please note that all travel and accommodation costs will be the responsibility of each participant or presenter.
