We will examine how competing interests: lobbyists, stakeholders, media, elected officials, and public servants see policy change and how they interact and impact the ultimate product: legislation.
Counsel must understand this very dynamic process in order to creatively and effectively advocate in their client’s best interest, in the boardroom or courtroom. We will examine the theory and practice of how relevant institutions and interests advance their positions and then apply this understanding to analyze case studies in the financial services and health sectors. Students will be assessed on class participation, written arguments and a case study presentation. Regular attendance and participation are essential.

Evaluation
Attendance and class participation (10%), bi-weekly comments on readings (5 or 6 papers submitted on a bi-weekly basis) 1,000 words each (65%) and an oral and written presentation of one in-depth case study (25%).
