This course deals with the rules governing individual and corporate bankruptcies. It focuses mainly on two federal statutes: the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act and the Companies Creditors Arrangement Act, and also addresses certain provincial statutes. The course will provide students with a foundation for understanding insolvency law in a business context. Topics covered will include formal bankruptcy, the appointment of a receiver, ranking of creditors and commercial reorganizations.

Evaluation
3-hour 100% open book final examination, materials to be determined by instructors.
