General Motors of Canada First Generation Fund

From the Spring 2000 issue of Nexus.

General Motors of Canada has provided a generous gift of $300,000 for the creation of an endowment to support students who are in the first generation of their family to attend university. Matching programmes on the part of both the University of Toronto and Province of Ontario have augmented GM's gift to create a total endowment of $1,000,000.

The unique terms of this award were the inspiration of V. Maureen Kempston Darkes, President & CEO of General Motors Canada and member of the class of 1973. Maureen's leadership in making this gift will allow the Faculty to provide annual financial support to incoming students who are following educational and career paths never before taken by members of their own family. By steering this important gift to the law school, Maureen has shown exemplary foresight and sensitivity. The law school is deeply grateful to be able to offer this form of assistance and encouragement to deserving students.
