External Financial Support

Many outside agencies offer awards to graduate students. Keep in mind that deadlines can be very early, often in September or October. Your request for financial support from the Faculty may be jeopardized by your failure to apply for available external awards. 

SSHRC (Social Sciences & Humanities Research Council of Canada)

Available for both LLM and SJD studies.  See the SSHRC web site.  (Canadian Citizens and permanent residents only.)

Vanier (SSHRC or CIHR)

Available for SJD studies for both domestic and international students.  For students interested in applying for a Vanier to attend our SJD program, please note that the internal deadline for submission for 2012-13 has passed.  Please contact Julia Hall for further information (jk.hall@utoronto.ca).

Ontario Graduate Scholarships

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Graduate Scholarship

Value: $50,000 US for length of degree program

Description: For current undergraduates/recent graduates in the U.S. (US citizenship not required) applying to University of Toronto to pursue graduate degree in any discipline or professional degree. The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation in Virginia was established in 2000 by the estate of Jack Kent Cooke to help young people reach their full potential through education.
